Why We Donate to Animal Shelters

Some people have said to me, “Why do you contribute to animal shelters when there are so many humans that are still suffering?” It does seem that between cancer, natural disasters, hunger, homelessness, lack of access to good education and clean water,  there is plenty of causes to support in this world.

Sad LabradorI have to admit that it is all too easy to overthink a contribution of your hard earned money, to wage an internal battle of justification for which contribution would go to a more worthy recipient. Does donating to cancer research mean that I don’t care about global access to clean water? Does donating to education initiatives mean that I don’t care about homelessness? These thoughts can be paralyzing. At the end of the day, I believe the important thing is not which cause or charity to give to, it’s just to give.

Animal shelters and animal-based charities struggle to keep up with the three to four million dogs and cats that are euthanized every year in the United States alone. Even the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), the two largest animal welfare organizations, are small operations compared to the number of animals in need.

In my role as the leader of the Petpost pack, I believe it is my duty to uphold Petpost’s mission to “bring cleaner, healthier and happier lives to ALL dogs.” That is why I ensure that Petpost is not only providing the best natural pet products on the market to our passionate customers, but also that we regularly donate our products to animals in need. I can’t say that we donate 5% of our proceeds to animal welfare organizations, and I can’t say that we donated every Friday to a different organization, but when we find a shelter or organization that embodies our mission, we contribute all that we can to support them. It is through these contributions that I find Petpost is able to truly live up to what are customers expect, a company that cares about their customers, no matter how many legs they have.

If you would like to suggest an animal welfare organization or animal shelter for us to make a contribution to, please send us an email.

Happy Dog Looking Down
